Like any every other country, Japan is no stranger to goverment corruption. This one is a bit strange:
HIMEJI, Hyogo–A 48-year-old man was arrested Saturday
on suspicion of accepting 1.5 million yen worth of beer coupons when he
was an official at the Himeji office of the Construction and Transport
Ministry in return for securing business contracts for a Himeji firm.
1.5 million yen is about $10,000 US. Not a particularly large amount
except at today's exchange rate and from what I can find on current
beer prices in Japan, that would buy you about 2000 Kirin Ichiban's!
