Jay-Z to Push Bud Select

So, what do you do when you have your own record label, are CEO of rap's biggest label, dated Beyoncé, and are semi-retired so you have some time to kill? Well, if you're Jay-Z you become Co-Brand Director of Budweiser Select. According to the press release:

Jay-Z "will participate in Budweiser Select planning sessions to provide his unique spin, thoughts and insights on various brand programs" as well as "be involved in providing direction on other upcoming Budweiser Select television ads, radio spots, print campaigns and several high-profile events."

Looks like you can count on seeing Bud Select product placement in Jay-Z's videos. Hopefully they won't try to rap about Bud Select and try to gain brand recognition like Courvoisier and Cristal. There's nothing at all sexy, cool, phat, whatever about Bud Select. I'm not saying it is a bad beer–its actually better than I thought it would be–it just isn't cool. If you want to rap about a beer and make it cool how about something fun like Porkslap or Hop Whore? Or, pick a beer that already is cool and has some cachet like Guinness? What beer do you think should should be the rapper's beer of choice?

New Beer Blog: Mug Warrior

I came across a new beer blog today called Mug Warrior. From their first post, here's a description:

Its a blog about beer. My friends and I are going to be writing about beer. Its the perfect excuse to talk about beer and drink beer and go to beer events.

The site looks good and the content is cool so go check it out. I like their choice of links in the sidebar too :-)

New Widmer Brothers Hefeweizen Packaging

I finally tracked down the package containing the promo for the new Widmer Brothers Hefeweizen packaging. They sent six bottles of beer, two tall pilsner glasses, a lemon, and a card to show how to pour the Widmer Brothers Hefeweizen. Also tucked in there was the new six pack holder.

One of the first details I noticed on the bottles was the logo that is just under the neck. This repeats for a total of three and gives the bottle a very nice shape:

The six pack container art has been updated. It looks similar to the current artwork but has a much more complete look to it. Even the bottom of the container is well-done:

I liked the treatment on the UPC code where they extended it into wheat:

My attempts at getting good photos of the rest of the packaging failed but you can see the new look at the Widmer Brothers site.

I'll have a review of the brew once I drink the last beer :-)

Everyone Loves Pumpkin Beers

From your comments and an informal survey I took of my fellow tailgaters on Friday night at the pathetic excuse for football that was the UCF game, everyone likes pumpkin ales. Except me. Someone gave me a Blue Moon Pumpkin Ale and I actually liked it but that was because it didn't taste like pumpkin spice. Coors says it has pumpkin spices but neither I nor anyone else that had one thought so.

For those of you that likey the pumpkin, check out BeerAdvocate's list of over 100 pumpkin ales
