The Great Pouring Debate

Beer has its share of religious debates. One of them is the correct way to pour a beer. Just like religion, you either come down on one side of the argument or you just don't care. Some will say that pouring down the center of the glass is the only way to go since it releases the aromas of the beer. Others will scream blashpemy and say that you should pour a beer gently down the side of the glass so that you get just the right amount of head but not too much (go ahead and giggle).

Over on the BrewBoard forum, the debate came up as a result of the latest Bud commercials. I personally like the view that the best way to pour a beer is any damn way you want to.

Beer Pong is Hot

BeerpongIt seems that you can't go a day without being exposed to beer pong. Just yesterday, it came up in a post-run conversation. We've covered it on Hail the Ale! before. I hear the new iPod will play beer pong. Today, I'm perusing the Internets and I see that even the New York Times is talking about it.

Looks like corporations have found out about it and are trying to capitalize on it:

This past summer, Anheuser-Busch unveiled a game it calls Bud Pong. The company, which makes Budweiser, is promoting Bud Pong tournaments and providing Bud Pong tables, balls and glasses to distributors in 47 markets, including college towns like Oswego, N.Y., and Clemson, S.C.

You'd think that with all the responsible drinking commercials you see from A-B that this would be hypocritical. Well, they try to explain it this way:

Bud Pong was not intended for underage drinkers because promotions were held in bars, not on campuses. And it does not promote binge drinking, she said, because official rules call for water to be used, not beer. The hope is that those on the sidelines enjoy a Bud.

Uh, yeah. I'm sure they hope that those watching such an exciting event will be the only ones drinking.

Boozin' Gear

Kevin at BoozinGear.com sent us an email to let us know about his site. I checked it out and not only does it have a very nice design, it has some cool beer-related gear. The site describes itself as:

dedicated to providing drinking enthusiasts the merchandise and products featuring their favorite beer, liquor, and malt beverages. A perfect idea for a gift, our beer and liquor products range from t shirts, hooded sweatshirts, hats, women’s shirts, koozies, and much more merchandise to come. We encourage people to “wear what you drink”, and provide them one place to find their favorite beer and liquor brands’ merchandise all from one convenient location.

So check it out, just in time for the holidays (they are coming soon, so brace yourself!). I like the Yuengling t-shirt myself.

Another Beer Blog

Yep, they just keep coming–or at least coming to our attention. Today's find is Beerwise. It is filled with beer stuff, funny stuff, and other stuff. I'm a little short on adjectives and nouns today so that's all I can say other than go read it, it's good.
