Another Beer Blog

11 May

A chap named Kensy writes in:

Dear Fellow Beer Blogger,

I was on your site tonight for the first time and really enjoyed it. I just wanted to let you know that my friend and I have just recently joined the ranks of proud beer bloggers everywhere, with the launch of our new site Hop Watch: http://hopwatch.blogspot.com. We review some serious brews but in a sort of unorthodox style. So, please check us out.

So I checked it out. He was right about the unorthodox part. Take for example the post that begins: “Ever snorted lines of freshly ground Sumatran espresso beans?”

I’ve added Hop Watch to our list of sites we like at the right of the page.

India's Kingfisher Takes to the Skies

9 May

Vijay Mallya, the owner of Kingfisher beer is starting a new airline:

The new airline has a marketing strategy unashamedly aimed at attracting a new generation of “high-fliers” by pampering them with top-quality entertainment at budget prices.

“We have extremely attractive and well-trained flight attendants. We have a brand new fleet of aircraft. We have individual entertainment systems where every single seat has video screen,”

Beer, models, and air travel. What more could you want? I wonder what other beers they will serve…

Beer Sweepstakes

6 May

So, you like beer? Like to travel? Why not get someone else to foot the bill and give you beer?

You can enter the Great Beer Sweepstakes put on by Fuller or the Cherry Blosom Festival Sweepstakes put on by Sapporo. Both would get you out of the country (unless you live there already) and have the lure of free beer.

Beer Review – Dos Equis Amber

6 May

Since it was Cinco De Mayo, I thought I would review one of Chris's recommendations to give you a different perspective.

The only thing amber about this beer is the color and the slight hint of caramel as it goes down.  Here's the experience.  Looks good, smell – hmmm - no overtones of anything, smells like a Budweiser.  Taste is light, with a hint of caramel but you would never know it unless you are looking for it.  Aftertaste is strangely related to the aftertaste of a budweiser.  It's nasty to the point where I have to take another sip.

I repeat this process and determine that this beer isn't getting any better.  It's kind of like nickle beer, the more you drink of it, the nastier it gets until you are drunk.  It is a Mexican beer so I didn't expect much, but sad to say I would prefer a beer with lime in it over this one.

Like most Mexican beer, pair it with your typical Mexican foods.

Holy Chipotle!

6 May

Rogue-chipotleHopefully seis de Mayo is being kind to you. If you are still in the Mexican mood, check out Rogue’s Chipotle Ale.

Thanks to On Tap for pointing this one out.
